How Much Does One Toilet Flush Cost?
A simple way to estimate the water and sewer cost of a single flush using your own utility rates.
The basic math
The cost of a flush can be estimated from the toilet's flush volume and your utility's combined water and sewer rates.
Estimated flush cost
Flush volume × your effective water/sewer price per gallon = approximate cost per flush.
For a household estimate, multiply the per-flush result by the number of flushes. Keep in mind that utilities use different rate structures, minimum charges, tiers, and sewer rules, so a marginal-cost estimate can differ from simply dividing a bill by gallons used.
Make it personal
Check your water bill for the unit price and look up your toilet's rated gallons per flush. Those two numbers will give you a much better estimate than a generic internet average.
